What lay beyond the archway? D'Nadrea had been raised in fear of the runic columns, with their glowing archway of pulsing magic that made the surrounding air tingle from their power. She'd heard all the tales of a wild world where death abounds. Of a place where chaos and the creatures of nightmare reigned supreme. It was where those deemed criminals by The Restorers were banished, though a banishment hadn't been witnessed in generations. Still, the question whispered in the deepest, most hidden corners of her mind: What lay beyond?
Just a short seed story I wrote to go along with one of my digital paintings. It’s something I might expand on someday after other story projects are farther along. The painting itself was a bit of an experiment. Sometimes, I like to play around with motion photography to see the interesting results I can get by moving the camera all around while I’m taking the picture. It’s especially fun to do with jewellery or anything else reflective (or Christmas tree lights!). I’ve started using a few of those results though as inspiration images for paintings. Traveller of the Realms was one and this painting is another. In the case of this photograph, the object was a vintage Trifari necklace from my costume jewellery collection. I’d originally been photographing some of my collection to move on and make room for pieces I liked better and my hand jerked by accident while taking one of the pictures. After that, I thought ‘oh, why not’ and did it deliberately just to see what would happen and then played around with the exposure settings on the computer.
