Unfortunately, last month saw a lot of interruptions with my writing. First with having to split my time between writing and making jewellery for my upcoming show (which I just found out is actually a week earlier than I expected; it’s generally the first Saturday and Sunday in June would have made it June 6-7, but, this year, it’s actually May 31-June 1) and then I had a recurrence of the same arm/hand trouble that I had last summer which are taking a while to fully heal up. They’re getting there, but aren’t fully back to normal yet so prayer would be appreciated!
Some progress updates though! My work-in-progress urban fantasy An Inkling of Magic is now just shy of 134k total word count! For new subscribers, if you haven’t had a good wander about my page, you can find the ‘table of contents’ post here with all the currently posted chapter drafts and their locked/unlocked status. I’m slowly working on chapter 38 and it will be up as soon as I’m able to finish it, but, with my hand issues and split focus right now, I can’t give a timeframe yet of when that will be. Locked chapters though will continue to unlock and email out to free-subscribers on schedule.
Something else that I don’t have an exact timeline for yet - going wide. Last month, I ran a poll asking how/where people usually got their books from as part of an exploration of whether or not to pull out from Kindle Unlimited. Well, after much research and prayer, I’ve decided that I’m going to give wide a chance, but it’s probably going to take me some time to get everything ready to do so. Print copies will be going wide first and, because of some stupidity surrounding ISBNs and IngramSpark and Amazon not playing nicely with each other, this will be taking longer to do than it should as I’m going to need more ISBNs and, to avoid pricing issues between both platforms, I’ll be reformatting my paperbacks to a slightly different trim size for Ingram than I have on Amazon. Once paperbacks are switched over to wide, I’ll start to tackle what needs to be done to take the ebooks wide. Ideally, I’d like to have everything wide by the end of the year, but I’ve no idea how long of a process this will actually be. So, more to come on all that once I know more and can give a more accurate timeline!
In addition to prepping for my art show, I’m also about to get neck deep in getting ready for the author fair I have coming up just two weeks after the art show. You ever notice how everything seems to pile on at once? A sure sign that summer is around the corner!
Praying, and I hope all goes well for you!
